Trane Technologies Employees Host “Stuff the Truck” Food Drive

Trane Technologies Employees Take a Bite out of Hunger with “Stuff the Truck” Drive, Collecting over 6,700 Pounds of Food and Goods for Charlotte Families
Employees at Trane Technologies’ North American headquarters in Davidson “stuffed” a 48-foot trailer with over 6,700 pounds of non-perishable food items in a weeklong campus event aimed at stemming rising food insecurity rates among local families. Over five days in the week after Thanksgiving, employees brought armsful and trunksful of goods, which were then donated on December 4 in equal amounts to two local food pantries: FeedNC and Loaves & Fishes.
According to activity in both pantries, the need for food is at an all-time high. This year, Loaves & Fishes has served over 112,000 individuals, with half of those being children and seniors, while FeedNC has served around 6,000 people in Mecklenburg, Iredell, and Cabarrus Counties.
North Carolina has the 8th highest rate of food insecurity in the nation and nearly 15 percent of households in Mecklenburg County are considered food insecure, which means they lack access to enough food for an active, healthy life. The donated goods, which include items like canned vegetables, tuna, fruit, rice, cereal, diapers, and women’s feminine products, will help both pantries serve their clients across the greater Charlotte area.
Trane Technologies’ businesses play a critical role in ensuring our communities have access to healthy food and learning environments. Thermo King’s products and services help move perishable foods and medicines while Trane provides healthy environments in homes, schools and commercial buildings.
Trane Technologies’ employees are passionate about contributing to a sustainable future. As part of its 2030 Sustainability Commitments, the company is investing $100 million and 500,000 employee volunteer hours over the next decade. The company’s corporate citizenship strategy, Sustainable Futures, is designed to enhance learning environments, accelerate student success, and open career pathways to students from underrepresented communities throughout their educational journeys.
This was the first year Trane Technologies hosted its Stuff the Truck event. The company’s ambition is to make it an annual event that takes place at other Trane Technologies locations in the United States and around the world.
“At Trane Technologies, our purpose is to challenge what’s possible for a sustainable world, and that purpose extends to the communities in which we work and live,” said Carrie Ruddy, chief communications and marketing officer, Trane Technologies. “Providing people in our communities with healthy food and learning environments helps us create a better world for future generations.”
“Sustainable communities cannot exist when there are children going to school with empty bellies and families that are skipping meals because they can’t afford to put food on the table,” said Deidra Parrish Williams, Trane Technologies’ leader of Global Corporate Social Responsibility. “That’s why we’ve challenged our employees in Davidson to be part of the solution, and to go big, stuffing an entire trailer to help our neighbors in need.”
“Events like Stuff the Truck are especially meaningful this time of year,” said Bonnie Battalia, development director, FeedNC. “We’re grateful for the Trane Technologies employees and volunteers who donated food and their time. The items collected allow us to not only feed people, but to act as a catalyst for change for our neighbors in need.”
“Food drives like Stuff the Truck go a long way in making sure everyone in our community is well fed,” said Tina Postel, CEO, Loaves & Fishes. “For our patrons, receiving goods like the ones donated provide them with hope, relief, and dignity to be able to feed themselves and their families.”
