Gifting Books This Year

Dear Reader,

There is a word for gifting books. It’s Jólabókaflód! Actually, Jólabókaflód is more than the act of gifting books; it’s the Icelandic tradition of exchanging books at Christmas, and then spending time quietly reading and enjoying them together.

Translated, it roughly means yule book flood.

I love giving books to my family. I spend several weeks pondering the right match for each person. We’re a far flung group, so I don’t get to sit and read books with all of them together, but I try to wrangle my kids into some quiet reading at Christmas.

Last year I had a terrific time sharing the list of books that I gifted to my family members, so I’m sharing this year’s selections, too. Scroll down to see who’s getting what (unless you’re a Walker or a Fitzgerald!).

I also want to share a heartfelt congratulations with our store manager, Jessica Nock, who won a James Patterson Holiday Bonus this year. Every year, author James Patterson gives a $500 holiday bonus check to 600 booksellers who work at indie bookstores across the country. We wouldn’t exist without our booksellers and are truly grateful that Patterson has made this grand gesture an annual holiday event.

with gratitude & best wishes for a wonderful holiday,

Adah

P.S. - We are open every day through Christmas Eve! On Christmas Eve, our hours are 10 AM - 2 PM. We will be closed on December 25th & 26th for the holiday.
