Volunteers Needed for Ada Jenkins Tax Assistance Program

by | Dec 21, 2023

Ada Jenkins needs your help for this upcoming tax season. The Volunteers in Tax Assistance is often referred to as VITA, and Ada Jenkins sponsors the IRS VITA Program to assist families that live in our community and make less than $60k during the year with free tax return preparation. These services will be provided at locations in Davidson, Cornelius, and Huntersville.

Volunteers are needed for the upcoming tax preparation season.

Last year we helped over 300 families and could use your help as we anticipate being very busy again this season.

The 2023 tax year program runs from the first weekend in February until April 15, 2024 and our current volunteer needs are for:

Greeter/Screener – You greet everyone visiting the site to create a pleasant atmosphere. You screen taxpayers to determine the type of assistance they need and confirm they have the necessary documents to complete their tax returns. Tax law certification is not required for this position.

Tax Preparer – You complete and successfully certify in tax law training, including the use of electronic filing software, to provide free tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers. There is a basic and advanced certification and previous knowledge of tax law is not required.

Marketing – If you like marketing, the skills to market tax-preparation locations to the community is greatly appreciated.

Administration – Help set up appointments, maintain schedules of volunteers, some data entry to system software, and help the program coordinator with various tasks.

Training will be provided for Greeters and Tax Preparers. Tax preparers will need to provide their own laptops.  Training is scheduled for Saturdays in January 2024.

For more information on how to volunteer for this program and provide this important service to the community please reach out to the us at: [email protected]  or call/text 704-765-6195.
