DavidsonLearns: Who Owns the Parthenon Marbles?

by | Jan 1, 2024

The Parthenon Marbles had adorned the Parthenon for over two thousand years, when Lord Elgin, a British diplomat, removed them from Athens to Britain in the first years of the 19th century. Housed in the British Museum since 1817, these treasured works of art remain a source of continuing controversy between the United Kingdom and Greece, which seeks their return. How did the sculptures come from Greece to Britain over two centuries ago, and who is their rightful owner today?
