In Memoriam: Kathleen Marie Hogg Labretone

by | Jan 31, 2024

Kathleen was born May 28, 1977, in Charlotte, North Carolina. From her birth until her death, January 5, 2024, Kathleen lived within 30 miles of her birthplace.

Kathleen had a tumultuous early life. In 1985, Kathleen and her two younger sisters, Erin Michelle and Audrey Rose moved to a family care home. Kathleen and her sisters, Erin and Rose, were adopted into the family of John, Deborah and Amy Hogg in June 1986.

Kathleen lived in Davidson, North Carolina until she graduated from North Mecklenburg High and King’s College–where she studied to become a nurse. In high school, she played the clarinet in the marching band. She loved playing soccer. She sang in the Davidson United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and was an active member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship.

In 2000, Kathleen and Jeramy Labretone were married and had a son, Austin Michael Labretone. Through her adult life, Kathleen loved her son, Austin; her dogs, Chevy and Pistol and caring for elderly people. She worked at various medical offices and eventually went into private duty nursing. Her final assignment was with the Headen Family (2019-2024). She was able to live on their family property while caring for Mrs. Headen. The Headen family grew to love Kathleen and felt that when she was sober, there was no better caregiver.

Sadly, Kathleen passed away January 5, 2024 from the medical effects of long term alcoholism. Kathleen is survived by her son, Austin Michael Labretone; her parents, John and Deborah Hogg, her sisters Amy Baldwin, Erin Hogg, and Rose Hogg, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Youth Ministry Davidson Methodist Church 233 S. Main Street, Davidson NC 28036 or The Arosa House 1030 Arosa Ave, Charlotte NC 28203. Her parents, John and Deb Hogg greatly appreciate Frank Headen and Sharon Wolf for their commitment to Kathleen.

Kathleen’s memorial service will be on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 3:00 pm. We will be in the (white) chapel of Davidson Methodist Church.
