ROCK HILL, S.C. – Led by freshman Jenna Skibbe’s game-high six goals, the Davidson Wildcats dominated Winthrop University in a 20-2 victory on Wednesday evening.

The win, which marked the Wildcats’ first of the 2024 season, proved to be the program’s largest margin of victory since beating St. Bonaventure, 21-2, on April 20, 2019.

Juniors Riley Cochrane and Josie Lambert aided Skibbe’s efforts in Davidson’s rout of the Eagles, as the duo scored the first four goals of the game. The two also ended with four goals apiece.

Payton Cheedle, Riley Moore and Brooke Ross each added goals to the stat sheet before the end of the first half, extending Davidson’s lead to 12-0 entering the intermission.

Lambert’s third score came at the 12:45-mark of the third quarter, just before Winthrop scored its first of the day to make it a 13-1 game. Over the final 25 minutes of play, Davidson would strike seven more times, while holding the Eagles to just one more goal, to secure the 18-point victory.

Goalkeeper Paige Doyal made five saves in 60 minutes of work, while earning the first win of her career in cage. Davidson also caused 11 turnovers, led by defenders Alyssa Natoli and Brynn Jones.

Overall, the ‘Cats went a perfect 17-of-17 on clear attempts, while out-shooting Winthrop 35-11.
