Few musicals over the past decade have had as personal and emotional an impact as Fun Home, an intimate adaptation of Alison Bechdel’s memoir about her childhood in her family’s funeral home. As Alison becomes more aware of her own identity, she develops a deeper understanding of the struggles her father faced as a man incapable of being truly himself. Winner of the 2015 Tony Award for Best Musical, Fun Home recreates the art of musical theatre as something that can capture the pain, awe, and joy of the living rooms where we grew up. Been reading any manga or watching any anime lately? Come share with us what you’re reading and watching! We’re not a regular book club. We’re an “UnBook Club!” What’s an Unbook Club, you ask? We don’t all agree to read the same things. (After all, some like shojo more than shonen, or like the mecha genre more than the magical girls type. Some might even like both!) Here we all take turns sharing what we’re currently reading, give and ask for recommendations, and share our love of manga! We play games, watch anime, make crafts, and hang out. Join us every last Thursday of the month at 4:30 p.m. in the community room. Looking for some manga to read? Check out our catalog and place a hold, or come explore our graphic novel section in the branch. Find a link to our catalog by clicking here.
