DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men’s tennis team dropped a pair of dual matches against James Madison and Coastal Carolina Saturday and Sunday at the Davidson Tennis Courts. 

“Saturday was tough conditions,” said head coach Drew Barrett. “Our guys competed hard, but JMU did a better job making balls when it counted. Our doubles teams had a good dat and has been a bright spot as of late.” 

Udday Singh and Nico Pinzon cruised the a 6-1 victory on the No. 2 court while Luca Lovrich and Jerry Wang clinched the doubles point for the ‘Cats via 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot. 

Juan Camillo Perez Gongora was the lone Davidson player to win in singles play as he pushed his match to three sets in, the No. 2 spot, to an eventual 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 triumph. Maxwell Kachkarov, and Wang also each forced a third set on the No. 3 and No. 6 courts respectively but came up just short. 

“Unfortunately on Sunday we had a few guys go down with injuries,” said Barrett. “However, I was really happy with how we competed against a really good Coastal team.” 

The Chanticleers took wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spots to seal the team point and carried their success into singles competition winning in the No.2, No. 5 and No. 6 spots to complete the sweep. 

The men’s tennis team will return to the court March 2 when they host Atlantic 10 opponent Richmond at 12 p.m.
