La Escuelita Holds Community Helpers Week and Offers Literacy Programs and Parent Workshops

by | Mar 5, 2024

Do you or anyone you know can sign up to assist with a one-hour interactive presentation during the school year at La Escuelita?

La Escuelita, or “little school,” is a bilingual, hands-on science preschool. La Escuelita provides native Spanish-speaking preschool children a solid foundation for kindergarten in loving, faith-filled bilingual classrooms. Tuition is set very low to offer quality preschool education to families without affordable alternatives. Our literacy program sends books home every week to build home libraries. La Escuelita also offers English classes and monthly workshops to parents. We are located in the Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson. Please contact Pat Shaw at [email protected]

This is Community Helpers Week

This is Community Helpers Week at La Escuelita Bilingual Preschool. Community helpers are people who aid in the overall well-being of our communities. They provide us with goods and services. Some examples of community helpers: doctors, nurses, chefs, bakers, soldiers, teachers, dentists, mail carriers, police, bus drivers, coaches, babysitters, fishermen, plumbers, firefighters, farmers, librarians, and volunteers. Children can learn a lot from community helpers!

We were SO excited to have Engine Number 3 visit us! We saw the special clothes and equipment the firefighters use. We saw the flashing lights and heard the siren! We also had a visit from our police friends. We learn that they keep our neighborhoods safe, and we are happy to see them. We made gift bags and a BIG card for our first responders.

  • We share experiences we have had with community helpers.
  • We create a custom postage stamp to celebrate postal workers.
  • We role-play being a librarian.
  • We play a matching game using photo cards of service workers.
  • We build a “town” with blocks and add toy emergency vehicles.
  • We learn how to call 9-1-1 and understand that we should call only in an emergency.
