Wildcat Golfers Win 2024 Cleveland Golf Palmetto Title
AIKEN, S.C. – Davidson, which entered the final round one stroke off the lead, fired its second straight sub-par round to capture the 2024 Cleveland Golf Palmetto Title Tuesday afternoon.
The Wildcats, who entered with four top-5 finishes this season, finished the two-day/54-hole event at 845 (287-279-279), six clear of host and overnight leader USC Aiken (+11). Furman (+19) and East Carolina (+20) came in third and fourth, respectively.
In addition, its Davidson’s seventh team win since the 2021 spring season.
“I am very proud of the guys!” commented head coach Tim Straub. “They played terrific golf on a very challenging old-style course. It’s great to see their hard work pay off.”
Joshua Stewart led the Wildcats on the 75-player leaderboard, coming home tied for second at 2-under 208 (70-70-68).
Will Davis (210 | E), who held the individual lead after 36 holes, finished two back of his teammate in a tie for fourth, while Alex Heffner (75-72-67 = 214 | +4) fired the day’s lowest round to climb 24 spots into a tie for 11th.
Freshman Benjamin Newfield (75-71-74 = 220 | T-31) and sophomore Price Miller (77-74-70 = 221 | T-38) also came up big for the Wildcats on the final day.
The Pacers’ Rory McDonald O’Brien captured medalist at 3-under 207 (69-68-70).
