Preliminary Election Results – 2024 Primary
As of 10:24 Tuesday night, all 195 precincts in Mecklenburg County had reported into the N.C. State Board of Elections via the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections. The following information has been compiled and updated reflecting the races that were featured on Davidson voters’ ballots.
Highlighting the N.C. House District 98 race, since both candidates in the Democratic primary are Davidson residents, Beth Gardner Helfrich is the apparent winner of the primary with 3,923 votes (65.54%). Lisa Jewel received 2,090 votes (34.46%).
Another big deal for Davidson voters, Natasha Marcus has more than 75% of the statewide votes in the Democratic primary for N.C. Commissioner of Insurance.
Mecklenburg County Commissioners
The top 3 vote recipients were: Leigh Altman (58,029), Arthur Griffin Jr. (55,355), and Yvette Townsend-Ingram (53,055). Incumbent Pat Cotham finished in fourth place with 39,258 votes.

Updated: With 100% of the statewide precincts reporting, the following candidates lead in the respective primary races. Reminder, if a party’s candidate did not have opposition in the primary, their names were not on the ballot. They will face the other party’s winner in the general election in November.

Early voting data reflected that 1325 voters cast ballots at Davidson Town Hall. County wide, 52,551 ballots were cast. The election board has approved 2122 mail in ballots at this time.
