Lacrosse’s Two-Game Road Trip to California
UC Davis – Despite leading for nearly the entire first half, the Davidson Wildcats fell to UC Davis 13-9 on Sunday afternoon after a late surge from the Aggies.
The ‘Cats held a 6-4 lead going into halftime, before Davis responded with five unanswered goals to pull back in front and secure the lead for good. Over the final 30 minutes of play, the Aggies outscored Davidson 9-3.
Josie Lambert led the Wildcats’ offense, scoring a career-high six goals on eight shots. The junior, who leads the ‘Cats with 19 scores this season, helped Davidson erase an early 2-0 deficit with four first-half goals.
Davidson scored three goals in the fourth quarter, but ran out of time for a comeback as the Aggies tacked on another four. Lauren Garcia, Riley Cochrane and Julianne Carey, who made her first game appearance since mid-February, aided the offense scoring once each.
In all, the two teams won 13 draw controls apiece, with Shayna Brodman and Kella McGrail winning three each for the Wildcats.
Stanford – The Davidson lacrosse team wrapped up its West Coast swing with a 19-7 loss to Stanford University late Tuesday evening.
The Cardinal, who are receiving votes in the most recent ILWomen/IWLCA Division I poll, rattled off 26 shots on goal during a combined effort from Paige Doyle and Kayla Joycein net.
Josie Lambert led the Davidson offense for the second-straight outing, recording a hat trick before the end of the first quarter to help keep the ‘Cats in a tight, 6-4 game.
Thanks to a pair of goals from Riley Cochrane, Davidson kept the Cardinal within three scores until the 8:51-mark of the second period. Leading 8-5, Stanford’s Annabel Frist scored a free position goal and ignited an 11-2 scoring run over the remaining 38 minutes of the game to secure the 12-goal victory.
Stanford’s Aliya Polisky led the game with six goals and one assist. The Cardinal held the advantage in draw controls 22-8.
