Sip & Shop Fundraiser for Circle de Luz on International Women’s Day

RSVP HERE This special International Women’s Day shopping experience will support Circle de Luz and will feature a talk by Lauren Rico, author of Familia, at 6:30 PM followed by a signing. Stop in for a quick browse or stay for awhile to build your library and make connections.  Twenty percent of all sales from the evening will be donated to Circle de Luz, a Charlotte-based non-profit that radically empowers young Latinas. This is a celebration; we’ll have complimentary food and wine (21+), a book raffle, thank you swag, and great company!

Davidson Community Players: Fun Home

Few musicals over the past decade have had as personal and emotional an impact as Fun Home, an intimate adaptation of Alison Bechdel’s memoir about her childhood in her family’s funeral home. As Alison becomes more aware of her own identity, she develops a deeper understanding of the struggles her father faced as a man incapable of being truly himself. Winner of the 2015 Tony Award for Best Musical, Fun Home recreates the art of musical theatre as something that can capture the pain, awe, and joy of the living rooms where we grew up. Content Advisory: Recommended for Ages 15+

This program will be provided by Davidson library staff. Please check in with library staff beginning at 9:00 am on the day of the Storytime – the first 12 babies and their caregivers are able to attend. Babies experience brain stimulation through language and socialization. Engage your little one with new sights and sounds through books, songs, and rhymes.

Hear Our Voices: A Powerful Retelling of the British Empire through 20 True Stories presented by the Gender & Sexuality Studies Dept at Davidson College

About the Book – This beautifully illustrated middle grade book is great for ages 8 – 12!

An essential introduction to one of the largest empires in human history, told from the perspectives of 20 people who lived through it.

About the author – Dr. Radhika Natarajan is assistant professor of history and humanities at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Her research focuses on the intertwined histories of decolonization, the welfare state, and citizenship in the British imperial world.
