Baseball Drops Rain-Shortened Contest at South Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Davidson baseball team found itself facing both the rain and the 21st-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks Wednesday afternoon in a 4-1 road loss.
Heavy showers in the area forced a rain delay after six innings, and the game was deemed official after a 40-minute pause.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to three walks and a Gamecock error, as leadoff hitter Nick Calero scored on Jack Cotrone’s bases-loaded walk. The Gamecocks, however, scored two runs in the first and two more in the second to take control.
Noah Jouras singled for the Wildcats’ first hit in fourth inning, and Calero added a single in the fifth.
Starter Isaac Fix threw 2.2 innings before handing the ball to the bullpen.
Jake Dunagan (1.1 IP) and Adam Katz (2.0 IP) did not allow a hit the rest of the way.
