Pamela Quarles-Adams Fine Art Studio is now open at 108 S. Main Street

If you haven’t stopped by the art gallery on Main Street, you should plan a visit. Pamela Quarles-Adams moved to Statesville from Colorado in 2020 and was told that “Davidson is the place you want to open your gallery.” The gallery opened in November 2023, and it has really taken off since then. Pamela’s work – acrylic, oil, and mosaics – are on display (and are for sale) in the gallery.  In addition to her own work, Pamela features the work of local artists in the gallery.

Originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, Pamela dreamed of being an artist at the age of ten. Finally, when she was 55, she was able to devote herself full-time to creating art.  During the intervening 45 years, Pamela had a varied career, and is thrilled to be able to realize her life’s dream.

On Saturday, March 23 from noon – 7:00 p.m., you will have an opportunity to see John Griffith’s watercolor and acrylic works.  John is an educator and minister who served as Chaplain of the Dana Hall School, Dean of Admissions and Vice President for Development at Davidson College, and President of Lyon College and President of Presbyterian College. After forty years, John and his wife, Nancy, returned to Davidson.

John’s interest in painting began on a beach trip when Nancy told him that “vacations are not going to be fun unless you drop your work agenda and find a way to relax.”  John’s relaxation became painting. He took two classes at the Ringling School of Art & Design in Wildacres, North Carolina. John takes his inspiration from Nancy’s photographs and frequently uses them as the subject of his paintings.  He chooses photographs to paint that have a “pop” and a sense of balance. In addition to original paintings, there will be giclee prints as well as notecards available for purchase.

Thank you, Pamela and John, for giving us this opportunity to appreciate your work.
