Men’s Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson College men’s cross country team earned Division I U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team honors for their impressive work in the classroom this past fall.
The Wildcats ranked 15th nationally out of 340 cross country programs on the USTFCCCA’s ranking list with a cumulative GPA of 3.658 which marked the program’s highest cumulative GPA and ranking since the 2014 season.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
Men’s cross country also recorded a fall GPA of 3.749 which was the highest of any athletic program, male or female, at Davidson last semester.
The ‘Cats were under the direction of first-year head coach Andrew Allden, who came to Davidson after previously coaching at South Carolina. In his first year, Davidson won Lenoir-Rhyne’s SAC Preview and had six top-ten individual finishes.
“Our athletes don’t just run in the fall but compete nine months out of the year come track season, so to be able to do that and still excel at a high-level in the classroom is an amazing accomplishment,” said Allden. “I’m extremely proud of the guys for their hard work.”
