Assistant Head Football Coach Steven Jackson was critically injured in an automobile accident early Wednesday morning.

Coach Jackson and his family are a visible part of Davidson, beyond his presence on the college campus. They live in the college house at the corner of Concord Road and Baker Drive, and he is a big and bigger than life kind of guy. Jackson routinely walks with his kids to and from preschool at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. And yes, his kids typically wear mohawk bicycle/scooter helmets. The entire family often attends other events on campus and around town. And while he is clearly a devoted Wildcat football coach, he is also an unmistakably doting dad.

Additionally, Coach Jackson has been a driving force in the football team’s involvement in the community. Most notably, he has been one of the most dedicated volunteers supporting the Room in the Inn program. The challenge of setting up and breaking down the beds for the program has been made easy with the help of Davidson football scholar-athletes and their coaches.

Jackson’s official title is Assistant Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator/Defensive Run Game Coordinator/Defensive Ends.

Huntersville Fire Department posted on social media early Wednesday morning that they were responding with Davidson Fire Department to a serious crash on Davidson-Concord Road near Bradford Park. That post also stated that one victim was pinned in a vehicle. An update stated that one person had been extricated from the vehicle, and two patients were being transported by EMS.

A GoFundMe account has been established to not only help the family with medical expenses, but also with transportation. Stephanie Funderburk, Jacob Norris, and Katie Lawing are listed as one of the organizers of the account. News of Davidson has confirmed that this is a legitimate site.

This is the summary posted on that page.

In the early morning of March 13th, Steven Jackson (AKA Coach, Big Sexy, or Steve-O) was in a horrific car accident. He suffered several serious injuries and has a long road of recovery ahead of him.

Steven is a huge part of the Davidson community. Let’s rally around Coach and his family during this difficult time. He currently has a family of four with a third child on the way.

They are a one car family and the accident totaled their car leaving them without transportation. Our goal is to not just help with medical expenses, but also help raise enough money for a new car.

Any donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated.

Please keep Steven and his family in your prayers.

Head Coach Scott Abell said that he “and Davidson Football appreciate the outpouring of prayers and love for the Jackson family. We ask that you continue to keep them in your hearts and prayers.”

We echo this call for support to Coach Jackson and his entire family. Please donate if you are able. CLICK HERE to donate.

We’ll continue to update readers if there are other ways to help the Jackson family.
