by | Mar 18, 2024

RICHMOND, Va. — A 7-1 start from the Spiders proved to be too much for the Davidson lacrosse team to overcome, as the Wildcats fell 15-7 to No. 24 Richmond on Saturday afternoon.

The result moves the ‘Cats to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Spiders improve to 6-2 and 2-0.

Brooke Ross notched Davidson’s first goal of the day at the 8:31-mark of the first quarter to make it a 2-1 game, but Richmond capped off a five-goal tear to build its defining lead by the end of the frame.

The ‘Cats outscored the Spiders 3-1 in the second, thanks to scores from Riley Moore and Julianne Carey, and were able to pull back within four, 8-4, by the end of the first half.

Davidson came within as many as three goals, 9-6, after Lauren Garcia and Ross opened up the third quarter with back-to-back goals, but Richmond closed out the game on a 6-1 scoring run to secure the A-10 victory.

Paige Doyle made six saves in 45 minutes of relief, while Allie Hartnett won six draw controls.
