Lacrosse Dominant in Win Over VCU

The ‘Cats hosted VCU in their first game in the new Davidson College Stadium.

 

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In the first game ever played inside Davidson College Stadium, the Wildcats ousted VCU 18-7 in Atlantic 10 lacrosse action on Wednesday evening.

Six ‘Cats recorded multi-goal performances, led by four scores from Allie Hartnett and a pair of hat tricks from Riley Cochrane and Josie Lambert. Senior Julianne Carey also added a season-high four points with one goal and three assists, aiding Davidson in its best A-10 performance to date.

The Wildcats and Rams exchanged goals for the first 13 minutes of play, with Hartnett recording the first goal ever scored on Field 76 just over three minutes into the contest.

After Cochrane and Jenna Skibbe scored back-to-back goals to end the first, Davidson ignited into a 6-0 second quarter to pull away for good with a 10-2 lead at halftime.

In the final 30 minutes of play, the Wildcats continued to outscore VCU, this time 8-3, with the help of offense from Lambert and Lauren Garcia.

On the defensive end, Davidson went 13-of-15 on clear attempts and caused nine VCU turnovers. Rookie Brooke Ross led the ‘Cats with seven draw controls, and two points, while Carey and Hartnett added four draws apiece.

Freshman Kayla Joyce earned her third win in net this season, making five saves.

The ‘Cats will return to action on the road with a Sunday match up at George Washington. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m.
