Wildcat Golf Finishes Strong at Seahawk Intercollegiate
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Behind Alex Heffner’s final-round 68, Davidson climbed three spots up the leaderboard to place third at the 2024 UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate Monday.
The two-day / 54-hole event was played on the Par 72, 7,030-yard Country Club of Landfall Nicklaus layout.
Coming off two consecutive wins, the Wildcats (+23) fired the day’s lowest team total, a two-under 286, to secure their seventh Top-5 finish in eight events this year.
A senior from Harrisburg, N.C., Heffner (217 | +1) birdied three of his last five holes to come home tied for sixth, while finishing with his 12th career Top-10 showing.
No. 2 Auburn, which shared the lead with Davidson after the opening round, captured the team title by seven shots over Stetson. The Wildcats finished 12 back of the nationally-ranked Tigers and three ahead of league-rival VCU (+26). Campbell (+27) and the host Seahawks (+31) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
The Camels’ Erik Johansson signed for a tournament-low 66 this afternoon to claim individual medalist at 8-under 208.
Davidson’s Joshua Stewart (73-72-74 = 219), who entered off two straight runner-up showings, continued his steady play finishing tied for 10th.
Teammate Benjamin Newfield (78-74-72 = 224) tallied his lowest finish of the season, placing tied for 26th. Will Davis (232 | +16) and Price Miller (239 | +23) rounded out the Wildcat scoring.
