WASHINGTON – Two mainstays on the turf for the Wildcats over the last four seasons, seniors Julianne Carey and Noelle Cegielski recorded 100 career goals and ground balls, respectively, during Davidson’s 18-9 defeat over George Washington Sunday.

Carey, the program’s all-time leading draw taker, scored three of the Wildcats’ first six goals of the day against the Revolutionaries, recording a hat trick before the end of the first period and notching her 100th career goal with her first score of the game. In all, the Blue Bell, Pa. native recorded six goals and one assist.

Cegielski was two ground balls shy of 100 heading into Sunday’s contest, and ended the day with four pickups. The senior defender also recorded two caused turnovers, moving her career total to 74, just one short of moving into fifth place all-time (75 – Sarah Otto).

Davidson jumped all over a 6-0 start, due largely in part to Carey’s first three goals of the day, and led by as many as nine, 10-1, midway through the second quarter after back-to-back free position goals from Lauren Garcia and Brooke Ross.

Despite carrying a 10-3 lead into halftime, the Revolutionaries outscored the ‘Cats 6-5 over a 22-minute stretch that cut Davidson’s lead to just six, 15-9. The Wildcats responded however, as Shayna Brodman, Riley Cochrane and Josie Lambert scored three-straight to close out the game and the nine-goal victory.

With the win, the ‘Cats improve to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in Atlantic 10 play.

Overall, freshman netminder Kayla Joyce made seven saves while Cegielski (2 CT), Brynn Jones (2), Alyssa Natoli (1) and Kella McGrail (1) combined for six caused turnovers on defense.

Lambert was once again a dominant force on the attack, scoring five goals for her ninth multi-goal game of the season.
