COLUMBIA, S.C. –  Senior Jack Stajos broke the school record in the discus and turned in two-top ten performances on the final day of the Weems Baskin Invitational on Saturday to lead the Davidson men’s track and field team.

Stajos, a Charlotte native, competed in his second outdoor meet in as many weeks and turned in a pair of solid performances in both the discus and the shot put. In the first event of the day, Stajos launched his second throw 51.19 meters to break his previous school record of 51.13 meters which he set last season. His mark was good for fifth place out of 31 competitors. It also puts him atop the A-10 Performance list ahead of this weekend’s competition.

The fourth-year man came back a few hours later for the shot put and notched a season best. In his first meet, Stajos recorded a throw of 14.84 meters, and he comfortably surpassed that on Saturday. The local senior notched a toss of 15.23 meters on his second throw to take seventh place.

In track events, Jayden Smith ran a 10.70 in the 100-meter dash but a wind-factor of 4.4 nullified the potential school-record time. Josh Hardin ran a 21.81 in the 200-meters which ranks tenth all-time in Davidson outdoor history.

Senior Henry Griffith ran a personal-best time in and lead all ‘Cats in the 800-meters. The Baltimore native stopped the timer in 1:57.55 to take seventh place. Freshman Liam Maurillo finished in the top-ten in the same event with a 1:58.17.

Also earning top-ten finishes were freshmen Daniel Cortese and Zak Abdulahi. Cortese took eighth in the 1500 with a 4:06.96, and Abdulahi finished seventh in the 5,000 by crossing the line in 16:54.81.
