Stauffer Named to Fill Town Board Vacancy

Tuesday night the Davidson Town Board announced an addition to their published agenda. Town Manager Jamie Justice said that the board would discuss and potentially vote on a nomination to fill the vacancy on the Board. The item was added as the final item of business on the evening’s agenda.
 
 
When it came time to address the issue, Mayor Rusty Knox provided a basic overview of the nominating process including the names of the members of the nominating committee, Mayor Pro Tem Autumn Michael, Commissioner Ryan Fay and himself.
 
 
Mayor Pro Tem Michael provided additional details about the process undertaken by the committee and town staff. They consulted with other municipalities to seek lessons learned and best practices for filling a vacancy under North Carolina statute.
 
 
Commissioner Fay shared some biographical information about their nominee, Ted Stauffer.
 
 
Stauffer is a Davidson East resident, and a graduate of Civics 101.
 
Since moving to Davidson in 2018, his volunteer work in the community includes: volunteering at Ada Jenkins, Senior Community Connections, and Continuing the Mission. He and his wife Judy are also involved at the college, serving as host family for an international student and as a Grandfriends host family.
 
 
Additionally, Stauffer served two terms (eight years) on the City Council in Inverness, Florida.
 
He was the Founder of the Inverness Old Town Association, promoting historic Inverness as a retail and cultural destinationStauffer also led the effort to preserve the 1912 historic courthouse where Elvis filmed “Follow that Dream.
 
 
A graduate of the University of Miami, and a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel with 29 years of service. He and Judy have three children who live and work in Florida.
 
 
 
Mayor Knox and asked if any commissioners had other nominations, and hearing none he called for a roll call vote. Each commissioner stated that they nominated Ted Stauffer. And with that Mayor Knox stated that by unanimous vote, the Board had named Ted Stauffer to fill the vacancy on the Town Board.
 
 
Mayor Knox asked Stauffer to come forward for the swearing in, where he was joined by Judy as he took his oath of office.
 
 
Following the swearing in, Stauffer was asked to join the other commissioners on the dais for one final item of official business. Stauffer then made the motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
