This One is for The Main Street Books Fans
Dear Reader,
I really was thinking about who you are. One of my absolute favorite days of the year is Independent Bookstore Day (April 27, 2024) because I get to plan a party for people who love books and bookstores. That’s you! So I’ve been thinking about you a lot. How should we celebrate you?
Well, here’s what I was thinking:
-
Earn a spin of the Prize Wheel with a $30 purchase,
-
Prizes? Yeah, like stickers, mystery grab bags, books, & more,
-
Earn a complimentary “The Future is Indie” exclusive tote bag with a $75 purchase,
-
Search for the Golden Ticket inside Main Street Books to win a three-month subscription to our Matchbox monthly book program,
-
Take a pic of your #bookhaul in a right-sized photo booth for your stack,
-
Hunt for the gnomes hidden in the bookstore,
-
Sip a literary mocktail, on the house, with a tip jar for Promising Pages,
-
Purchase or bring gently used kids books for our Promising Pages book drive,
-
& more, as they say.
April is obviously for counting down the days until Independent Bookstore Day, but it is also home to the Greater Charlotte Book Crawl and Poetry Month.
The Greater Charlotte Book Crawl takes place from April 1st – 30th, 2024. Collect stamps on your passport when you visit each of the 19 indie bookstores. You’re gonna want to pick a great audiobook from Libro.fm, rally your favorite diehard book friends, recommit to your tsundoku practice, and hit the road. Passports will be available at each bookstore and printable from the Book Crawl website here.
For Poetry Month, Merwin’s Pocket Poem Machine returns! Our cute vintage vending machine will be stocked with kid-friendly poems to brighten anyone’s day. Tuck in a quarter, turn the handle, and dispense delight! All the monies from the Pocket Poem Machine will go to Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center.
We’ve also got a special poetry reading in April. We’re celebrating new books of poetry from Mamie Morgan who will be in conversation with Jay Ward, Charlotte’s poet laureate. RSVP here!
with cheer,
