The Davidson Public Art Commission is pleased to announce its selection of Douwe Blumberg as the artist to produce the Davidson Veterans Monument. (See an album of additional artist’s renderings and a video here.)

Blumberg will be in the Town of Davidson on Tuesday, April 2 and Wednesday April 3 for site visits and to conduct public meetings with members of the Davidson Public Art Commission and the Davidson Veterans Committee.

Partial funding for this project has been provided by the Davidson Public Art Commission and the Arts and Science Council. A private fundraising effort is underway to raise the balance of funds needed to complete this project. Donations are greatly appreciated and can be made here: https://www.townofdavidson.org/1512/Veterans-Monument-Fundraising.

Blumberg has completed well over 200 private and public commissions, received numerous awards, and has several residencies and shows to his credit. Blumberg’s concept proposal, with a current working title “Flames of Honor,” is informed by the image of an eternal flame to timelessly honor those who have served our nation. Blumberg is also the sculptor of the “Dance of Life” piece in Town located near the Davidson Public Safety Building.

Blumberg’s recent significant projects include a large piece for the William Shatner residence in L.A., the Las Vegas Veterans Memorial (a three year project comprising eighteen large figures), the “Americas’ Response” Special Operations Monument to be placed by Ground Zero in NYC, a 17 foot tall flock of birds for the Intertex corporation of Los Angeles, a life-size herd of wild horses for the city of Aurora, CO, a large outdoor musical piece for the performing arts center in Lebanon, KY, the new entryway monument for the Vance Brand Airport in Longmont, CO and three pieces for the royal residence in Dubai.
