Baseball Bests Queens 15-11
DAVIDSON — Davidson batters blasted a season-best five home runs, including a grand slam by Jake Wilhoit, en route to a 15-11 non-conference win over Queens Tuesday night at Wilson Field.
The Wildcats, now 14-14, scored five runs in both the first and second innings to take control early and never lost the lead, despite Queens also putting up double-digit runs.
Leadoff hitter Noah Jouras hit the second pitch a Wildcat batter faced into the trees in the left-center for an early 1-0 lead. Wilhoit’s grand slam highlighted the second inning, and Tyler Douglas (fourth inning), Aidan Rice (sixth) and Eli Putnam (seventh) blasted solo homers as well. Rice’s shot was the first of his career, while Putnam’s seventh tied Michael O’Shaughnessy for the team lead.
Jouras finished 4-for-6, while Cider Canon was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. O’Shaughnessy added an RBI-double in the first.
Davidson utilized six pitchers, including starter Brycen Champey who threw two innings. Isaac Fix (2.1 IP) and Thomas Whelan (2.2) also tossed multiple frames, and lefty Jason Ban helped the Wildcats finish the job. He entered with one on and no outs in the ninth and retired the next three batters in order, including two on strikes, to end it.
