DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men’s tennis team took the doubles point and never relinquished its lead on the way to a 6-1 victory over The Citadel Sunday in part of it Senior Day match. 

“The Citadel played a real tough match against us today,” said head coach Drew Barrett. “It was great to have our seniors contribute in such a big way with getting wins on their senior day.”

Prior to Sundays match, a pair of seniors in Alejandro Solares and Jerry Wang, were recognized for their great contributions to the program throughout their careers at Davidson. 

Solares and Udday Singh secured the doubles point for the Wildcats on court one with a 6-4 win after Nico Pinzon and Juan Camilo Perez Gongora were triumphant on court two via 6-2 victory. 

Perez Gongora continued his winning ways through singles action as he earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the No. 2 spot. Solares picked up what would be his second win of the day with a 7-6, 6-4 two-bout victory in the No. 4 spot to extend the ‘Cats lead to 3-0. 

Wang, joined the fellow senior by putting up a huge match-clinching performance on court five in identical fashion with a 7-6, 6-4 final score. 

Sebatian Carpio Moran, in the No. 3 spot, earned a win of his own in a tightly contested three-set match where he fell 6-4 in the opening set then battled back to 6-2, 6-2 wins in the final two. Pinzon tacked on an additional win of Davidson with a 5-7, 7-6, (10-6) tiebreaker on court six.

Davidson finished out the regular season when it hosts in-state and non-conference opponent UNC Charlotte to the Davidson Tennis Courts 12 p.m. April 13.
