Town Adopts First Climate Action Plan
DAVIDSON, NC – The Town of Davidson’s Board of Commissioners adopted the Town’s first Climate Action Plan (CAP) at the public meeting held Tuesday, April 9 at the Davidson Town Hall and Community Center. The adoption of this plan shows commitment from the Town’s elected officials to the community that they are committed to moving Davidson and its community toward carbon neutrality.
The Town of Davidson partnered with Blue Strike Environmental to create the Climate Action Plan. The CAP is intended to serve as a guiding document to drive emissions reductions and sustainability action in line with 2037 and 2050 goals. Aligning with the Town’s bicentennial milestone, Davidson’s Board of Commissioners adopted an ambitious municipal goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2037. Going a step further, the CAP sets a community-wide carbon neutrality goal by 2050. The CAP presents goals, strategies, and actions to achieve these carbon neutrality goals. Actions will both mitigate climate impacts and increase community resilience in the face of potential climate changes.
“I am proud of the strategic way Davidson is moving forward and grateful for the community’s contributions to the betterment of our Town through their impactful feedback and participation in the planning stages that started in June of last year,” said Leslie Willis Department of Parks and Recreation Director for the Town of Davidson.
The Climate Action Plan is designed to serve as a resource for Town’s elected officials, staff, and residents to pursue carbon neutrality with substantiated confidence. Over 280 community members weighed in on the Climate Action Plan survey conducted in the summer of 2023. Results of the survey were crucial in developing the final Climate Action Plan along with input from the Sustainability Committee and Town Board.
Kayla Kovach, the Town’s Sustainability Manager had this to say about the Plan’s adoption, “By prioritizing sustainability, Town Leadership has shown Davidson’s commitment to the well-being of its community members and natural environment. With this Plan in place, Davidson is set up to be a leader for strategic climate action progress. I am excited to continue advancing sustainability efforts in the Town of Davidson and look forward to bringing this Plan to life!”
