Davidson Earth Day Festival 2024

by | Apr 11, 2024

The Town of Davidson, Davidson Lands Conservancy, and Davidson College invite the community to enjoy a festival of Earth Day activities. Come and join in on the fun Saturday, April 27 between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at 35 Lorimer Road, adjacent to the Davidson Town Green. A brief ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., where the Town will be presented with an award from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Earth Day, traditionally celebrated on April 22 since 1970, is a global initiative which seeks to raise awareness of environmental issues, as well as empower individuals to make changes in their daily lives that positively impact the environment. The Town of Davidson Earth Day Festival  features over 20 family-friendly, hands-on, and informative booths and exhibits about a variety of environmental topics. Members of the Town of Davidson Sustainability Committee and Sustainability Manger, Kayla Kovach will be on hand to discuss the Town’s climate action and sustainability efforts. The Town Arborist will also be there to answer any tree-related questions and have electric landscape equipment on display.

Stop by the Town’s table for an opportunity to provide public input and assist the Town in determining high-priority recommendations for the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and a chance to earn a prize! Earth Day Festival participants who walk or bike to the event or complete a Learning Passport will enter the prize lottery.

Area non-profits and local businesses will be ready to answer your questions and offer solutions to help you reduce your carbon footprint, including Davidson College Sustainability Office, Davidson Green School, Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful, Mecklenburg County Beekeepers Association, local green team members, Mecklenburg County Solid Waste staff, and more.

This year’s Davidson Earth Day Festival will showcase the importance of pollinators, composting and recycling, electric vehicles, climate action, how to establish a wildlife friendly yard, and receive a free native plant (while supplies last) from the Davidson Lands Conservancy. Enjoy an opportunity to try something new. Plant a seedling with a local farmer, learn to reduce plastic waste with an interactive art installation, and taste vegan cuisine. Engage with local electric vehicle owners and get a look inside the “frunk” (front trunk) of the Town’s new electric truck. Hear from area businesses who are working to be effective for a healthy planet and healthy people, including A Small Change, Autmow of Lake Norman, Dwell Home Supply, EcoGreen Home Services, Good Earth Essentials, King of Pops, Thrive Gardening, and more.
