DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women’s tennis team was defeated 7-0 Saturday by the College of Charleston.

“Charleston has an extremely strong team,” said head coach Susanne Depka. “We played some close matches and had opportunities to take some matches. Mentally I thought we could have handled adversity better. Against quality players we need to adjust and stay mentally strong when the opponent starts to raise their level. There were many lessons to learn from this match and I hope the team takes them into our match vs. Gardner-Webb on Monday.”

Daniela Porges and Kavya Patel started the Wildcats off strong for the day with a dominant 6-2 victory at the No. 1 doubles position. Emma Heiderscheit and Savanna Kollock fought to take the team point for the ‘Cats on court two but came up just short in a 6-4 decision.

The Cougars extended their lead to 3-0 with tidy two-set wins on courts four and five before securing the match-clinching point in the No. 1 spot where Porges battled to a 6-4, 7-5 defeat by her Charleston opponent.

Patel was able to push her match to three sets after winning 6-2 in the first before falling in the next two sets 7-5, 6-0 despite leading 5-2 in the second set at one point.

Heiderscheit on court three and Olivia Hooper on court six also saw three-set matches come up short.

Davidson will look to turn the tides when it travels to Gardner-Webb 2:30 p.m. April 15 for its second to last regular-season match of the season.
