Men’s Tennis vs UNC Charlotte

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson Men’s tennis team was topped 7-0 by in-state and non-conference competitor UNC Charlotte Saturday.

“We battled a really good Charlotte team today,” said head coach Drew Barrett. “We lost some close matches but are starting to hit our stride at the right time. I’m looking forward to the conference tournament in a couple of weeks.”

The 49ers ran away with the doubles point after taking a 6-1 victory on court two and 6-2 win on court one, leaving Juan Camilo Perez Gongoraand Nico Pinzon unfinished at court two, leading 4-3.

Charlotte picked up another pair of points with two-bout victories on courts five and six before sealing the deal with a two set win on court three.

After dropping the opening sets on court one and two, Udday Singh and Perez Gongora each pushed their matches to three after battling back for a second-set win. However, both were edged in the third. Senior Alejandro Solares also saw his match on court four go to three sets, following a 6-2 win in the first and 6-2 loss in the second, but his 49er opponent was able to take the final set 7-5.

Davidson will host an Alumni Match on April 20 before setting its sights on the conference championships from April 25-28 in Orlando, Fla.
