Wildcats’ Golf Finishes Second at the Wofford Invitational
NEWTON, N.C. – Highlighted by three Top-10 individual finishes, the Davidson men’s golf team finished runner-up at the Wofford Invitational for their ninth Top-5 showing in 10 tournaments this season.
The 54-hole event was played on the Par 70, 6,683-yard Catawba Country Club layout.
Will Davis (209 | -1), who leads the Wildcats in stroke average, fired a tournament-low four-under 66 Tuesday to finish one off the lead in a tie for third. Teammate Joshua Stewart ended up one back of Davis for his fourth Top-5 finish of the 2023-24 campaign.
Two-time Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, Alex Heffner, continued his steady play with a one-under 69 to conclude at 212 (+2) and tied for eighth.
Freshman Will Tharin (72-74-72 | 218) placed tied for 21st, while Price Miller (228 | +18) was also in the Wildcats’ lineup. Benjamin Newfield (226 | +16) competed as an individual in the regular season finale.
Davidson (+9), which led for a good part of the day, fired a final round 277 to place second out of 13 team.
South Carolina (+6) claimed the team title by three shots over the Wildcats, while Gamecocks’ Frankie Harris and Wofford’s Cedric Otten shared individual medalist at two-under par.
