April Marks the End of Another Successful Tree Planting Season for Davidson Lands Conservancy

by | Apr 16, 2024

As April arrives and temperatures rise, trees wake from their winter stasis and our region’s tree planting season comes to an end. Davidson Lands Conservancy’s TreesDavidson program has much to celebrate this year. The program hosted five tree plantings and added over 150 trees to our canopy at eight different locations around town. Volunteers planted a variety of native trees at Fisher Farm, Bailey Springs, Plum Creek, Community School of Davidson (CSD), The Bungalows, Hudson Place, The Pump House greenway, and River Run. As these trees mature, they add to Davidson’s aesthetic beauty, as well as help address critical issues like pollution, rising temperatures, and noise control.

Our most recent planting, held on March 23 in conjunction with the Town of Davidson, celebrated NC Arbor Day. After Mayor Rusty Knox’s welcome and opening remarks, a group of more than 50 volunteers planted approximately 35 trees along the greenway from South Street to Avinger Lane. Attendees also enjoyed a tree give-a-way provided by Bartlett Tree Experts and vendor fare, thanks to the Town of Davidson’s new arborist, Andrew Sileo.

DLC successfully completed these plantings through the hard work of their TreeMasters, trained tree planting volunteers, and dedicated volunteers. A variety of community partners made many of these events possible, as well. Collaborations with Community School of Davidson, Davidson Housing Coalition, the Westbranch community HOA, Hudson Place HOA, Town of Davidson, Bartlett Tree Experts, and students from area schools were all instrumental in the success of these plantings.

If you are part of a Davidson community or organization that would like to host a tree planting during our next planting season, please contact Carly at her email. DLC is already enthusiastically working on plans for the 2024-25 season!
