Lacrosse Earns Big Win Over St. Bonaventure
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Behind a six-goal performance by Josie Lambert the Davidson women’s lacrosse team took a convincing 15-7 win over St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon.
The three-game winning streak extends the Wildcats record to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in Atlantic 10 competition while the Bonnies move to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in conference action.
Lambert, a junior from Evanston, Ill., matched a career-best six goals in the win, which also notches her ninth game this season with at least three or more goals.
Davidson’s first eight goals of the contest were compiled by eight different players, led off by Julianne Carey on an unassisted touch to pull even (1-1) with St. Bonaventure in the first quarter.
The ‘Cats tacked on two unanswered via Riley Moore and Jenna Skibbe before the Bonnies cut the DC lead to one in the final five minutes of the first quarter. Lambert tallied her first goal of the afternoon to extend the ‘Cats’ lead to 4-2 at the end of the first.
Davidson narrowly outscored St. Bonaventure 4-3 over the second quarter with goals by Riley Cochrane, Allie Hartnett and Adrienne Leone. Additionally, Jacqueline Callahan officially scored her first career goal in the offensive surge through the second quarter.
After tacking on three insurance goals over the third quarter and allowing the Bonnies to score just one, Lambert ran away with the game over the final stanza, scoring four unanswered goals herself to put the game out of reach.
Skibbe, and Cochrane each ended with two goals while Carey dished out a game-high three assists. Carey grabbed a team-high three draw controls while Brynn Jones forced four turnovers.
Kayla Joyce was the goalie of record after making four saves in the first two quarters before giving way to Paige Doyle who made two saves over 30 minutes of play.
