The Town of Davidson Board of Commissioners allocated $5,000 to go towards Placemaking grants in the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget. The launch of the Davidson Placemaking Program was announced at the April 9 public Town Board meeting. Residents may submit applications beginning April 22.

Placemaking is defined as a hands-on approach for improving a neighborhood or town by collectively reimagining and reinventing public spaces. The intent is to strengthen the connection between people and the places they share by facilitating creative patterns of use, paying particular attention to the physical, cultural, and social identities that help to define “place.”

The Davidson Placemaking Program offers residents and community groups throughout town the immediate opportunity to collaboratively impact the public realm by improving their shared space.  The program’s goal is to support dynamic community gathering places in strategic locations while ensuring access for all.

“These grant opportunities support the creative talents of Davidson residents while at the same time incrementally improving the public realm for our entire community. I’m really excited to see what ideas and projects are submitted,” said Davidson Planning Director Jason Burdette.

Grant money is awarded on a first come, first served basis. Applicants may request up to the entire allocated amount, however, the Town aims to fund as many grants as possible each year. Placemaking grant applications will be accepted on a rolling schedule throughout the year.
