Women’s Tennis Ready for A-10 Championships
DAVIDSON, N.C. – With the release of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Championship bracket on Monday, the Wildcats were slotted the No. 5 seed and will face No. 12 Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Orlando, Florida.
The Wildcats finished the regular season with a 12-9 overall record and an even 3-3 mark in conference matches took league wins over Duquesne (5-2), UMass (4-3) and Rhode Island (6-1).
Dating back to 2015-16, Davidson is an undefeated 7-0 against the Hawks. Davidson has claimed four shutout victories in that time against SJU in addition to winning two conference matches via 4-1 victory in the first round of the 2019 Championships and 4-0 triumph in the semi finals of the 2022 A-10 tournament.
In the most recent meeting between the Wildcats and Hawks, members of the current roster, Emma Heiderscheit, Kavya Patel and Daniela Porgesall contributed to the win. Heiderscheit teamed up with Franny Shea to help clinch the doubles point on court three. Patel picked up a No. 4 singles win in hear perfect fashion (6-1, 6-0) while Porges helped extend the lead with an equally as impressive singles win on court six (6-0, 6-1).
Over the regular season, the women’s tennis squad was paced by Daniela Porges who was 12-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Junior went 4-3 from the No. 1 spot and 6-2 on court three throughout the season. Fellow junior Kavya Patel has also had a solid season with a 12-8 overall record including a strong 9-1 performance from the No. 4 spot.
As a pair, Patel and Porges have been dominant in doubles action, going 11-4 overall and out of the No. 1 spot with a 2-2 record in conference matches together. Individually in doubles action both the juniors are 13-7.
Additionally, freshman Bryson Langford has been compiling strong campaign as she ended the regular season 13-4 overall and 5-1 in A-10 action. the rookie was 12-4 from the No. 5 spot.
The Hawks (4-17, 1-6 A-10) enter the A-10 Tournament having snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over Jefferson in their regular-season finale. Saint Joseph’s is led by Victoria Tracey and Ireland Amato with 10 wins each this spring. Tracey competed in the No. 1 singles spot for the majority of the season for the Hawks. Sister duo Ireland Amato and Sophia Amato pair as one of SJU’s top doubles pair with a 7-16 overall record including a 5-9 mark in the second flight.
All rounds of the Atlantic 10 Tournament will be streamed through the USTA website’s Playsight system, which allows viewers to select the court they wish to watch. Admission will be free for the A-10 Championships.
