Is Mecklenburg County the cradle of American independence? And why does “May 20, 1775” appear on our State flag? David Fleming will tell us the story of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence and the local patriots — many with close ties to Davidson — who proclaimed Mecklenburg County “free and independent” from Britain long before Thomas Jefferson wrote his own Declaration.

He lives with his family in Davidson.
