DAVIDSON — A season-best 17 hits and a season-high six home runs helped the Davidson baseball team get past N.C. A&T 16-11 Tuesday night at Wilson Field.

It’s the Wildcats’ third win in their last four, as they improved to 17-22.

Reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Eli Putnam took his team-best home run total to 12 with two more on Tuesday, while Jacob Friend, Nick Calero, Noah Jouras and Cider Canon also left the yard.

Friend got it all started with a solo shot in the first, and for the second straight midweek game, Putnam made it a back-to-back first-inning with a solo homer of his own. Putnam then added a three-run blast in the third.

Calero hit a solo shot in the fourth, and Jouras (solo) and Canon (two-run) homered in the fifth as the Wildcats pushed their lead to 16-5.

Ironically, the Wildcats’ biggest inning of the night, the decisive five-run second, didn’t include a round-tripper. Jouras and Jake Wilhoit singled in two runs apiece, and a Canon sacrifice fly plated another.

Jouras added an RBI-double in the third and finished the night 3-for-6 and a triple shy of the cycle. Calero also had three hits on a night every Wildcat in the lineup recorded at least one.

Thomas Whelan threw the first two innings, as the Wildcats used seven arms. Matt Weber shut the door with a 1-2-3 ninth.
