Best Ever Independent Bookstore Day for Main Street Books
Saturday’s celebration of Independent Bookstore Day was the best of all of our years.
We have a tremendous staff that is greater than the sum of its parts, amplifying each other’s creativity, generosity, empathy, and sense of humor. I love working with them so much, and from the smiles on your faces today, I’m pretty sure y’all enjoy their good work, too.
I thought I’d share some numbers from our day, but as you can see from our photos it was a really busy day. So while these stats were conjured rather than calculated, they feel emotionally accurate.
Here’s how our day shook out:
- 22 – # of times the bell rang, rousing a storewide cheer for a reader who had completed their Book Crawl passport
- 1,718,962 – # of times a goldbug was found, traded for a Treasure Box prize, and re-hidden in the store
- 4 – the number of minutes the Prize Wheel spins if you give it too much giddyup
- 79 – the number of glasses of “Are you there god? It’s me, Virgin Margarita” served at our mocktail bar
- 300 – the number of fans who turned up to hear @robertbeattybooks speak for Mooresville Library’s Community Read. (This is factual!)
- 2 – the number of bookstores working together to assist the @mooresvillelibrary with their wildly successful Serafina event; it was such fun to work with @fredandjunes
- 13 – the number of booksellers that worked together to host this epic day with the Main Street Books community
- 1,000 – the number of thank yous I wish to bestow on every one of you who crossed our threshold
