Canon Earns A-10 Baseball Rookie of the Week Honor

by | May 6, 2024

Cider Canon (29) went 3 for 5 in the final game of the series vs. Siena.

WASHINGTON — Davidson outfielder Cider Canon has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the A-10 announced Monday afternoon.

The honor is the first for the freshman from San Marino, Calif.

“Cider has been an important piece for us,” said coach Rucker Taylor. “He missed the first part of the season but jumped into the lineup and has had a huge impact. He’s a great athlete and can do a lot of different things on the field. He plays hard and will continue to be a leader for us moving forward.”

During a 2-2 week, Canon hit .353 (6-for-17) with two doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs. He posted a 1.368 OPS, including a 1.000 slugging percentage, and turned in his best game to-date, a two-homer, seven-RBI performance in Friday’s 11-4 series-opening win over Dayton. Canon also homered in the non-conference win over Queens.

Canon is the third Wildcat to be named Rookie of the Week this year, joining Cooper Cavanaugh (Feb. 20) and Jed Howard (Feb. 27).

Canon and the Wildcats will host St. Bonaventure in a three-game series, beginning Thursday.
