Breiter and Smith Make All-Academic Team; Thompson Named All-Rookie
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Juniors Grahm Breiter and Jayden Smith were named to the Atlantic 10 Outdoor All-Academic Team, and freshman Chris Thompson was selected to the Outdoor All-Rookie squad the league announced on Tuesday.
Brieter and Smith both won gold medals at this year’s Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Breiter, a mathematics major, was the first Davidson Wildcat to win a conference title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and also set the school record two different times this spring. He was named A-10 Track Performer of the Week on April 23 for his record-setting performance at the Wake Forest Invitational. This year’s selection was Breiter’s first of his career.
Standout hurdler Jayden Smith made the All-Academic squad for the third time. The Richmond, Va. native won his third straight A-10 gold in the 110H and is one of just two male A-10 athletes to compete at the NCAA Championships this week. Smith is studying environmental studies with a hispanic studies minor.
Rounding out the list was freshman javelin thrower Chris Thompson. The first-year man out of Massachusetts claimed the longest mark of any other A-10 freshman this year. Thompson took home a bronze medal in his first-ever conference championship with a throw of 50.72 meters this past May. He currently ranks sixth on Davidson’s top-ten javelin performers list.
