Town Offices Close for Juneteenth, June 19, 2024
All Town of Davidson municipal offices, including the Davidson Town Hall and Community Center located at 251 South Street and the Davidson Public Safety building located at 216 South Main Street, will be closed on June 19, 2024, in observance of Juneteenth. Offices will re-open on Thursday, June 20, 2024, for regular business hours, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The date became a federal holiday in 2021 to designate June 19 as a National Independence Day. The Town of Davidson will recognize Juneteenth with an official proclamation to be signed at the Board of Commissioners public meeting on June 11, 2024..
According to Waste Pro, garbage and recycling pick-up will remain on a regular pick-up schedule. For additional waste collection information, please visit www.townofdavidson.org/garbageandrecycling.

What is Juneteenth?
On June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln emancipated enslaved Africans in America, troops arrived in Texas with news of freedom. More than 250,000 African Americans embraced freedom by executive decree in what became known as Juneteenth or Freedom Day.
