Davidson Film Club Presents “The Sweet Hereafter”

The Davidson Film Club is pleased to invite you to a screening and discussion of the multi-Oscar-nominated Canadian film The Sweet Hereafter on Saturday, July 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the Armour Street Theatre in Davidson.

Discussion of the film will be led by Dr. Carole Kruger, Professor of French & Francophone Studies at Davidson College, specialist in Quebec studies.

Box 32, Davidson, NC 28036. Checks or cash will also be accepted at the box office on the evening of the July 20 screening, if memberships are still available.

Walk-ins are welcome, $9 (NC sales tax included) at the door, cash or check (no credit cards). Walk-ins must apply for a seat in advance at [email protected]. Walk-in seats are limited by availability.

Refreshments (red and white wine, bottled water, and snacks) will be made available by the Film Club.

Film Summary:

A small mountain community in Canada is devastated by a tragic school bus accident which kills most of the town’s children. A big-city lawyer visits the victims’ parents in order to profit from the tragedy by stirring up their anger and launching a class action suit against anyone they can blame. The community is paralyzed by its anger and cannot let go. All but one teenage girl, left in a wheelchair after the accident, who has to reckon with the loss of innocence and finds the courage to lead the way toward healing.

Nominated for 2 Oscars: Best Director and Best Screenplay.
