Two New After-School Programs at the Ada Jenkins Center: Spots Open!
Registration Deadline: August 16, 2024
For the 2024-2025 school year: the Ada Jenkins Center is expanding with two new after-school programs to help area families:
Kindergarten-level spots in Ada Jenkins Center’s LEARN Works program, the only free after school academic program in northern Mecklenburg County for nearly 20 years. Now accepting kindergarten-age students, LEARN Works serves students through 5th grade who are 1-2 grade levels behind their peers in reading. LEARN Works provides:
- Reading support
- Career exploration, financial literacy, and other enrichment activities
- Homework start assistance
- Parent education
- Access to other Ada Jenkins Center services and resources, as needed
LEARN Works After-School Care program. At a cost of $50/week, this new program provides affordable access to after-school care for elementary school students (K-5), regardless of their academic level. There are 12 spots available during this program pilot year.
“We hear all the time from parents: their children benefit from academic support in early grades, and they need affordable after-school programs, as well,” says Harold E. Rice, Jr., Chief Executive Officer of the Ada Jenkins Center. “Because education is a key driver of economic mobility, we are committed to addressing both of these important concerns.”
Both programs run daily Monday-Friday from mid-September to mid-May. Students are brought to the program every day by bus from our partner schools. Consistent student attendance and parent participation is required, and parents must pick up students at dismissal.
Applications of Interest (due August 16, 2024) are available on the Ada Jenkins Center website.
LEARN Works staff will be at the Town of Cornelius’ National Night Out (August 6), Discovery Place Huntersville’s Countdown to Kindergarten Event (August 13), and the Neighborhood CARE Center’s Backpack Blessing Event (August 17), where families can apply onsite.
Families that apply and are enrolled by August 23 will be able to participate in a free in-store shoe shopping experience at the Shoe Show Mega Store.
