Tisha B’Av is August 13 – What Is It?
Is It Still Relevant In 2024?
Tisha B’Av is often considered the saddest day on the Jewish calendar. Historically, many tragedies have befallen the Jewish people on this day, the most notable being the destruction of the Second Temple by the Roman Empire 2,000 years ago, which began the Second Exile. It is for this reason that Tisha B’Av is a painful Jewish fast day commemorated each year.
As part of a worldwide event calling for Jewish unity on Tisha B’Av, Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, in partnership with Temple Beth El, Temple Israel, Levine Jewish Community Center, and the Charlotte Jewish Film Festival, are coming together to sponsor the screening of Legend of Destruction. This award-winning film tells the in-depth story of Tisha B’Av and the destruction of the Second Temple.
