Field Hockey Led Georgetown 5-1 in Weather-Induced No Contest

by | Sep 1, 2024

Lightening delayed the start of the game against Georgetown, and returned to result in an early end to the competition.

DAVIDSON — Though Davidson’s field hockey team built a 5-1 lead in the first 30 minutes, Friday evening’s season opener against Georgetown will go in the books as a no contest.

Lightning in the area caused the game to start nearly two hours late and recurring strikes forced the teams to leave the turf at the half. The game will not be completed.

While the game won’t count in the records, the Wildcats were dominant and showed their offensive firepower by striking early and often. Abby Pompeo, last year’s top Wildcat scorer, posted a hat trick, including two goals in the first quarter. Sib Naaktgeboren and Hannah Merritt also put shots into the cage, and by the end of the second quarter, the Wildcats were well on their way to a victory.
