As you settle into your fall routine sending your kids back to school here in the U.S., we need your help sending our kids back to school in Nigeria. To share how you can bridge the gap for a child in Nigeria, we want to introduce you to Jeffrey.

Jeffrey is one of three children living with their mother in a small room in a compound near the Youth Center. Having lost their father early last year, the family has been doing what they can to survive. The family had to move to a smaller home and Jeffrey’s mom sells fruit salads on the street to try to make ends meet. Her average income is less than $1/day – similar to most of the families of the children we serve at the After School Academy. Without A2S, it is unlikely that Jeffrey would be able to attend school.

At the After School Academy, we have the opportunity to raise Jeffrey and 249 of his peers to be Godly stewards. On a typical day when Jeffrey finishes school around 3 p.m., he and his friends walk to the A2S Youth Center, just a couple streets over from his home. They participate in a praise and worship assembly, share a meal together, and head to their classrooms where they are taught English and Math. For two Fridays out of each month on club days, you can find Jeffrey building his public speaking confidence in the Literary and Debate Club.

Just like any 12 year old boy, Jeffrey has big dreams. He wants to become a doctor, and knows that improving his confidence in English and continuing to excel in Math will be key to getting into medical school. With his family in mind, he knows the road to a successful career is hard as a kid in Benin City, but he looks forward to being able to support his mother who sacrifices so much for him and his siblings every day.

To continue to provide educational programs for our After School Academy kids like Jeffrey and our 62 A2S university scholars, we need your support. A generous donor is matching up to $30,000. With one week left to go, we are halfway towards our goal. Here’s how you can help:

We need 10 people to give $540 to support 10 After School Academy kids

We need 10 people to give $1200 to support 10 A2S scholars

$100 will support an A2S scholar for 1 month

$45 will support a child’s education at the After School Academy for one month

$30 will feed a child at the After School Academy for one month
