Davidson Lands Conservancy Earns National Recognition

by | Sep 9, 2024

Demonstrating Strong Commitment to Public Trust and Conservation Excellence

Since 2000, Davidson Lands Conservancy (DLC) has been preserving natural spaces in Davidson and the region east of Lake Norman. DLC is pleased to announce that it has secured reaccreditation through the national organization, Land Trust Commission. It is part of a network of over 450 accredited land trusts across the nation.

“Renewing our accreditation shows DLC’s ongoing commitment to permanent land conservation,” said Beth Wytiaz, Executive Director. “We are a stronger organization than ever for having gone through the rigorous accreditation renewal process. Our strength means special places here will be protected forever for generations to come.” DLC provided extensive documentation and was subject to a comprehensive third-party evaluation prior to achieving this distinction.

“The Conservancy is committed to continuing its collaboration with the Town of Davidson, the various counties in our region, Davidson College, and with landowners to protect high conservation value lands going forward,” stated Ed Harris, DLC Board Chair.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission awarded renewed accreditation, signifying its confidence that DLC’s lands will be protected forever. “We are proud to recognize Davidson Land Conservancy’s continued commitment to conservation excellence,” said Melissa Kalvestrand, executive director of the Commission. “The accreditation seal is a mark of distinction that stands for excellence, trust, and permanence. DLC is part of a network of accredited land trusts that now steward over 20 million acres nationwide and are united by their strong ethical practices. Accredited land trusts inspire confidence and respect among their peers and in their communities.”

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, established in 2006, inspires excellence, promotes public trust, and ensures permanence in the conservation of open lands by recognizing only those organizations that meet rigorous quality standards and strive for continuous improvement.  For more information on the Commission, visit this website.
