Women’s Soccer Rolls to 4-1 Senior Day Victory Over Appalachian State
DAVIDSON – The Davidson women’s soccer team continued its season-opening momentum in a 4-1 Senior Day victory over Appalachian State Sunday.
The win brings the Wildcats undefeated streak to five matches while its overall record becomes 4-1-1.
“This is an awesome result for us,” said head coach Riley Piechnick. “Going in we knew App State was going to be a tough opponent and similar to the Atlantic 10 caliber because they are having a really good season. So, the energy was just awesome today with it being senior day and that was a great result. We had a lot of different people score and different assists and we’re just feeling good. We’re getting closer to A-10 competition so we hope to keep this momentum going.”
Maddie Moody compiled an impressive performance, netting a pair of goals to extend her scoring streak to four straight matches while four of her five goals on the year have come by way of header.
Charlote Snead tabbed her first goal of the season on a well executed corner kick by the ‘Cats while Aleia Gisolfi-McCready picked up her second goal of the season in the win.
Savannah Pruitt earned two points on the day with a pair of assists both from corner service pieces while Ella Barnes and SJ Pak put their names in the score sheet with one assist apiece.
Emily Smith picked up her fourth win after making five saves and allowing just one goal over 90 minutes in goal.
The Wildcats struck first with Moody scoring in just the seventh minute of action before the Mountaineers knotted the score 1-1 on a 13th minute goal.
Moody broke the second half ice finishing off a Pruitt corner kick ball via header in the 54th minute that opened the flood gates for the ‘Cats. Snead followed in the 71st minute while Gisolfi-McCready shut the door on any chance of an App State comeback with less than two minutes remaining in the match.
For the game, the Mountaineers held advantages in shots (11-10) and shots on goal (6-4) while the ‘Cats led in corner kicks (9-2).
