Stewart Picks Up First Career Title; Wildcats Rally to Win 2024 River Run Collegiate
DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to Joshua Stewart picking up his first career win with a final round 68, Davidson fired a six-under 282 Tuesday to capture the 2024 River Run Collegiate team title.
After posting five Top-5 showings, including a pair of runner-ups a year ago, Stewart (72-68 = 140 | -4) finished the day with five birdies to lead the 66-player field. The native of Winter Springs, Fla., was one of just five golfers to conclude the 11-team tournament in red numbers.
Due to heavy rain and unplayable conditions yesterday afternoon, the annual event was shortened to 36 holes.
Will Davis (72-71 = 143 | T-2nd), who earned an at-large selection into the 2024 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional last spring, signed for a one-under 71 to place tied for second, three back of his teammate.
Sophomore Davis Sayman (81-67 = 148 | T-15th) also played an instrumental role in the Wildcats’ comeback, shooting a tournament- and career-low 67.
Davidson (+5), which trailed conference foe Loyola-Chicago by six entering the final day, was 17 shots better than its opening round to win by 11 over Delaware (+16).
The Ramblers (+17) and East Carolina (+17) ended up tied for third.
For the Wildcats, it’s their ninth team victory since the 2021 spring season.
Clayton Couey, who made a crucial eagle for the Wildcats on 18 late in his round to swing the momentum, finished his first collegiate tournament at 153 (+9), tied for 36th. Classmate Nate Faulkner was also in the Davidson lineup, while Price Miller and Will Tharin competed as individuals.
